The forecast is in and the dates have been confirmed for the legendary Katin Pro Am/Team Challenge presented by Primo. Surfline, the official forecaster of the 2010 Katin Pro/Am presented by Primo, says that forecast for the two-day event looks promising with solid swell and favorable conditions out of the WNW predicted. For Thursday, conditions are expected to clean up as high pressure builds back in over the region in the aftermath of Wednesday’s swell. Currently, it looks like the wind will be out of the north/northeast in the morning with some leftover “lump and bump” early. Wave size will be around the five-eight foot face range, depending on how the storm finishes out over the next two days. Friday will be cleaner with light offshore wind in the morning and light onshore flow for the afternoon. Surf will begin fading, but will retain good size, with wave faces in the four-six foot plus range providing ideal conditions for the Final.
Competition will begin on Thursday morning at 8 a.m., running all 16 heats of Round 1. Round 2 may run depending on conditions. On Friday, competition will begin at 8 a.m., completing Round 2 if necessary, followed by the Quarters, Semis and the Final. The Awards ceremony will occur immediately following competition.
With a stacked roster of teams confirmed, last year’s champion, Hurley, is set to return to defend their title, with Brad Ettinger, Brandon Guilmette, Christian Saenz, and Michael Dunphy making up this year’s four-man roster. Reef (Ben Bourgeois, Mike Losness, Chris Waring, Nick Rosza), Rip Curl (Tom Curren, Adam Lambert, Sean Taylor, Andrew Gahan), Jack’s (Riley Metcalf, Victor Done, Bruno Rodrigues, Dane Gudauskas), Fox (Jesse Evans, Jesse Merle-Jones, Sean Hayes, Josh Mulcoy) and Matix (Gabe Kling, Micah Byrne, Ricky Whitlock, Tyler Stanaland) will also be teams to watch.
An event webcast will feature live announcing and commentating by Dave Stanfield and Peter Townend, live scoring, special guests, on-beach interviews, online giveaways, instant replays, highlight video clips, and more.
The Shorebreak Hotel will serve as the official event headquarters. Visit shorebreakhotel.com for more information and contact Shannon Eaton, 714-861-4470, for bookings.
